Mattress Sizes in Malaysia: Single, Super Single, Queen & King
Published

Firmness you can soften with a topper. Feel you can change with your next mattress. Size is the one decision you’re stuck with — a Queen won’t fit a King bed frame, and a mattress that’s wrong for the room is a mistake you notice every single day. So it pays to get the size right first.
Here’s every mattress size sold in Malaysia — in centimetres and inches — with who each one suits, how much room it needs, and the frame and length details people forget until the delivery van arrives. Malaysian and Singaporean sizing is identical, so this works whichever side of the Causeway you’re shopping from.
The short answer
There are four everyday sizes in Malaysia, and they all share the same 190 cm length — only the width changes. A Single (91 cm) suits a child or a small room. A Super Single (107 cm) gives one adult proper breathing room. A Queen (152 cm) is the default for couples and most master bedrooms. A King (183 cm) is for couples who want maximum space, or who share the bed with young children. A larger Super King (around 200 cm wide) exists for the biggest rooms, but it’s far less common.
Rule of thumb
Buying for two? Start at Queen and only size down if the room forces you to. Buying for one adult? A Super Single is the comfortable sweet spot over a plain Single.
Every Malaysian mattress size, in cm and inches
All four standard sizes are 190 cm (75") long. Width is what separates them:
| Size | Width × Length (cm) | Width × Length (in) | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single | 91 × 190 | 36" × 75" | A child or teen, or a tight box room |
| Super Single | 107 × 190 | 42" × 75" | One adult wanting more room; guest rooms |
| Queen | 152 × 190 | 60" × 75" | Couples — the default master-bedroom size |
| King | 183 × 190 | 72" × 75" | Couples with space, or co-sleeping with kids |
Two things are worth knowing before you shop. A rarer Super King (around 200 × 200 cm) is available for very large rooms. And watch the length on imported beds: IKEA and other European ranges are usually 200 cm long rather than Malaysia’s standard 190 cm — which changes the fitted sheets you’ll need. If you’re used to US labels, our Single is what American brands call a Twin.
Match the size to who’s sleeping on it
Single — 91 cm
A Single fits one child or teenager, or a compact guest or study room. It’s perfectly comfortable for a smaller sleeper, but tight for a grown adult who moves around at night. In a child’s room it also leaves the most floor for a desk and play space.
Super Single — 107 cm
The quiet upgrade for a single adult. That extra 16 cm of width over a Single is the difference between tucked-in and genuinely comfortable, and it’s a great pick for a teenager’s room they’ll grow into or a guest room that occasionally hosts one adult.
Queen — 152 cm
The default for couples, and the size most master bedrooms are designed around. There’s enough width for two adults to sleep without a nightly turf war, without the bed swallowing the room. If you’re unsure what to buy for two people, this is the safe answer.
King — 183 cm
A King is 31 cm wider than a Queen — room for two adults plus the reality of family life here, where a young child often ends up in the bed. It’s also the pick for restless sleepers or anyone who simply likes to spread out. The catch is that it needs a genuinely large room to work, which is the next thing to check.
Will it fit your room?
The bed that feels generous in the showroom can swallow a bedroom at home. Before you fall for a King, measure the room and make sure there’s space to live around it:
- Leave room to walk and make the bed — aim for at least 60–70 cm of clear floor on each side you need to access, plus space to open wardrobe and cupboard doors.
- As a rough guide, a Queen sits comfortably in a room from about 3 × 3 m; a King wants closer to 3.5 × 3.5 m once you add side tables.
- Mind the doorways, lifts and stairwells the mattress has to travel through to reach the room — a tight turn can matter as much as the room itself.
Measure before you commit
Tape the mattress outline on your floor with masking tape before buying. Ten minutes with a tape measure saves you from a bed you’ll be shuffling around for the next ten years.
The gotcha: mattress size vs bed-frame size
A mattress size is not automatically a frame size. A Queen mattress needs a Queen frame or divan; put it on the wrong base and you get overhang, gaps at the edges, or a mattress that won’t sit flush. If you’re buying both, buy them together and matched — it saves a lot of grief.
It also pays to think about the base itself. A divan (an upholstered box base) and a slatted wooden frame both work, but they change the final height of the bed and how the mattress breathes underneath — which matters in our humidity, where airflow under the mattress helps keep it fresh. Storage beds trade some of that airflow for drawers, a fair deal in a small room where every bit of space counts.
Length and thickness — the bits people forget
Everyone checks width. Fewer people check length and thickness, and both catch buyers out:
- Length: Malaysia’s standard is 190 cm. If you or your partner are around 1.8 m or taller, that can feel short — look for extended-length or European 200 cm options, and match the frame to it.
- Thickness: mattresses run from about 20 cm to over 35 cm. Thicker isn’t automatically better, but it changes two practical things — how deep your fitted sheets need to be, and how high you climb in and out, which matters for young kids and older sleepers.
- Sheets and protectors: buy them to your mattress’s actual size and thickness, not just its name — a deep King mattress needs deep-pocket King sheets to stay put.
Buying from Singapore
Good news for Singapore buyers: Malaysia and Singapore use the same mattress sizing, so a Queen here is a Queen there — no conversion, no surprises. Many families cross the Causeway to buy in Johor Bahru for the wider showroom choice and value, then have the mattress delivered home.
We run scheduled cross-border delivery to Singapore; the timing and terms are on our Shipping Information page, or just ask us. Because the sizing matches, the only thing to double-check is that your Singapore bed frame follows the same standard — most do.
How to choose: a quick checklist
- Count the sleepers: one adult leans Super Single; two leans Queen, or King if the room allows.
- Measure the room and tape out the mattress footprint, leaving 60–70 cm of walking space where you need it.
- Match the frame or divan to the mattress size — and buy them together if you can.
- Check your height against the 190 cm standard length, and go longer if you need it.
- Then, and only then, choose feel and firmness — our King Koil vs Getha guide covers that half of the decision.
Mi Kuang’s take
Get the size right and the rest of the mattress decision gets easier. For most couples that means a Queen, stepping up to a King when the room genuinely allows it; for one adult, a Super Single is the comfortable default. Measure your room, match the frame, and mind the 190 cm length if you’re tall. Then come to our Johor Bahru showroom and lie on the actual sizes side by side — a Queen and a King feel very different once you’re on them, and five honest minutes settles it faster than any chart.
